That’s after a report from Spanish outlet AS claimed that Ousmane Dembele is now leaning towards signing a new contract with the La Liga giants.

Speculation around a move to Barcelona for Raphinha has been ramping up over the past few weeks, with some reports claiming that the Brazilian has agreed terms on a move to the Camp Nou.

However, it now seems that the 25-year-old’s hopes of a move to Spain could be about to come to an end very quickly indeed.

According to this latest update, Dembele is now more open to extending his stay at Barcelona following his recent success since Xavi took over as manager.

It is thought that if the France international does put pen to paper on a new deal, Barcelona will end their pursuit of Raphinha, since they will no longer need a replacement for Dembele.

Barcelona are also said to be reluctant to spend a big fee on Raphinha, especially if Dembele stays at the club, in which case they would instead look to keep Adama Traore, who is currently on loan from Wolves.

This may be seen as something of a relief for those of a Leeds United persuasion.

Losing Raphinha would be a huge blow given how much of an influence he has had since joining the club, and it does seem as though the Brazilian was rather keen on a move to Barcelona.

But if Dembele is to stay, it makes little sense for Barca to spend a big fee on a player, whose role in the side has already been filled, so you can understand their stance here.

However, even if Barcelona do not make a move for Raphinha in the summer, there are other clubs who could do so, meaning it could still be a nervous market for Leeds with regards to the Brazilian’s future.
