With the absence of league football to grab our attention over the last week, speculation over the transfer of Raphinha has taken the spotlight at Elland Road.

Various reports have emerged from elsewhere linking Raphinha with a move to Barcelona, as it has been revealed that the La Liga giants are in contact with his agent, Deco.

Nothing has yet materialised between the two clubs in the way of an offer, with talks only between the player, his agent, and the buying club.

Fabrizio Romano has been a busy man when it’s come to this topic, and he has now reported that Barcelona are not the only side vying for his signature, with Premier League interest coming from Arsenal.

Speaking on his Here We Go Podcast, he had this to say on the current race to sign the Brazil international:

“I can tell you that Arsenal also ask for information about Raphinha of Leeds.

“Barcelona are leading the race for Raphinha. But also Arsenal ask for information for Raphinha.

“They are not leading the race. They are looking for that kind of player.

“So Gakpo is a player they are following, but also Raphinha is a player they like. But it’s really complicated because Barcelona are leading the race.”

It’s no surprise that Arsenal are starting to look more ambitiously in the transfer market with their Champions League qualification looking more likely by the week.

I doubt that they’ll be able to stump up the cash that we’re demanding – if we stay up – but it’s the calibre of player that the Gunners need to take themselves forward.

As for us, it’s looking less and less possible that we’re going to be able to keep hold of Raphinha because if Barcelona don’t sign him, someone else will.

We just need to hope that we can stay in the league now, and get the best possible price for him.
