Manchester United’s players are allegedly divided over Erik ten Hag’s likely appointment as the club’s next manager.
The Ajax head coach is widely regarded to be the obvious choice to succeed interim leader Ralf Rangnick at the conclusion of the season, ahead of Mauricio Pochettino of Paris Saint-Germain, Julen Lopetegui of Sevilla, and Luis Enrique of Spain.
The 52-year-old, who has been in charge of the Dutch giants since 2017, is reportedly interested in a move to Old Trafford following productive discussions last week with the club’s administration.
According to the Manchester Evening News, while certain United players are excited about the potential of Ten Hag’s hiring, other first-team stars believe the Dutchman is an ‘underwhelming’ option to succeed Rangnick.
Ten Hag, who recently described Manchester United as a “wonderful club with amazing supporters,” declined to rule out leaving Amsterdam in the near future when asked about rumours connecting him with a transfer to Old Trafford.
The former head coach of Go Ahead Eagles, Bayern Munich II, and Utrecht has coached Ajax in 208 games in all competitions, winning two Eredivisie titles, two Dutch Cups, and one Dutch Super Cup.
