The Kano Pillars Midfielder,Aniekeme Asuquo Okon, first half goal thus makes the history of the first competitive goal to be scored in the refurbished,Moshood Abiola National Stadium, and equally the first player to score in the maiden Edition of the ‘Presidential Pre-Season Cup.
The maiden edition of the, Presidential Pre-season cup, which kicked off today in Abuja, was put together to mark the completion of the, 60,491 Capacity, Moshood Abiola National Stadium which was refurbished and recently handed over to the Federal Ministry of Sports by the Dangote Group.
In the first game of the invitational tournament which had Nigeria professional football league Campaigners in attendance was between Akure based outfit, Sunshine Stars and Kano Pillars.
The Kano based Nigeria Professional Football league side , Kano Pillars, were the first to score the competition first goal through highly rated Nigerian Midfielder, Aniekeme Asuquo Okon, as he kept a cool head to produce an ice-cold finish inside the box.
All efforts by the Akure side to draw level in the game failed rather they had their woes compounded as Umar and Legendary, Rabiu Ali, recorded a goal respectively.
Kano Pillars defender, Emeka, second half ‘own goal’ reduced the deficit for the Akure based outfit as the game ended respectful on a (3-1) scoreline.
It will be recalled the Refurbishing of the, Moshood Abiola National Stadium, by the, Dangote Group, was an offshoot of the Federal Government’s Adopt-a-Pitch Initiative which aims at using private collaborations to enhance the development of sportsmen in the country.
