Manchester United and Liverpool will renew their rivalry in a friendly match in Thailand in the summer.
The game is part of the billed ‘Phenomenon Maker’ at the ‘Bangkok Century Cup’ and will form part of preseason preps for the two English giants as they gear for the new season.
Confirming the news, Liverpool said in a statement: “Liverpool FC’s 2022-23 pre-season will kick off with a match against Manchester United in Thailand in July.
“Jürgen Klopp’s side will visit the Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok on Tuesday, July 12, where they will battle it out for the Bangkok Century Cup.
“Named ‘The Match’, this game will be the first stop on the Reds’ summer tour and will mark a return to the Rajamangala Stadium following a hugely successful 2015-16 pre-season tour.
“While in Thailand, the club will also take an active role in key local community projects and cultural activities.’
The game will come less than a month before the new Premier League season is set to start on August 6.
United has been said to be planning a more extensive pre-season tour in Australia. There have been reports that United was set to face Melbourne Victory and Aston Villa in Melbourne and then Villa in Perth, all in mid-July but the reports have been denied by the Telegraph’s James Ducker.
Liverpool on the other last traveled to the Far East in 2017, when they lifted the Premier League Asia Trophy in Hong Kong, beating Crystal Palace and Leicester, and the last time in Thailand was in 2015.
