talkSPORT host Jason Cundy sparked a huge social media debate as he claimed Liverpool star Luis Diaz is better than the ‘overrated’ Neymar.

Diaz has quickly become a fan favourite at the Reds having joined from Porto in January, helping strengthen their remarkable push for four trophies this season.

Diaz was signed by Liverpool for an initial fee of £37million

The 25-year-old made his latest game-changing contribution as he helped his side overcome Villarreal to reach the Champions League final.

With the match finely poised at 2-2 on aggregate heading into the final 45 minutes on Tuesday night, Diaz’s introduction changed the game and not only did he score but he struck fear into the Spanish side every time he got on the ball.

Liverpool are battling to win an historic quadruple, but the Colombian himself can land an incredible six trophies this season. He would be eligible for league and cup medals should Porto complete the domestic double.

The way Diaz has adapted to life in the Premier League and with Liverpool has been remarkable and he earned huge praise.

Liverpool fan Bobby called into The Sports Bar after watching his side make the Champions League final, saying: “In my opinion, he’s very, very similar to a certain Brazilian called Neymar…”

But Cundy, who’s a well-known sceptic of the PSG star, made a rather surprising interjection to Bobby’s claim.

Former Chelsea man Cundy interrupted and said: “He’s better than Neymar. I’d rather have Diaz than Neymar, that’s for sure. You’re damn right I would.”

Bobby added: “I think in three years, he’s going to be just as good as Neymar, if not better.”

Cundy replied: “Don’t put him in the same bracket as Neymar. Neymar is overrated, let’s not have that conversation now.”

Bobby said: “I just think Diaz is a breath of fresh air. He did it in the derby. He makes teams panic.”

Cundy added: “The first game he played, I remember he came on or I think he might have started, but he adapted to the Premier League and has taken to it.

“He’s Liverpool through and through.”

Not for the first time this week, the former Chelsea defender’s comments sparked plenty of reaction on Twitter, with plenty pointing out Neymar’s incredible goalscoring record for club and country.

The 30-year-old has 340 goals in 551 appearances in his club career, and has won numerous titles with Santos, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain.

He also has 71 goals in 117 games for Brazil.
