Leeds sit seven points clear of the relegation zone heading into the run-in, with Jesse Marsch’s immediate focus on survival.

Beyond that, though, Leeds are looking to back Marsch in the transfer window and have eyes on a new American full-back.

As per a report from TEAMtalk, Leeds could move for Dest after he fell out of favour at Barcelona under Xavi.

The 21-year-old is a right-back, but capable of playing on the opposite side of defence, potentially offering Leeds cover in a problem position.

Dest has made 27 appearances for Barcelona this season and registered three assists in La Liga. However, it’s said that Barcelona will make the American available for transfer in the summer.

Last summer, Leeds strengthened their full-back options with the signing of Junior Firpo from Barcelona.

There are other transfer sagas involving Leeds and Barcelona bubbling away, too, with Raphinha on the Spanish club’s radar.

Leeds need to upgrade their options at full-back this summer, without a doubt. Luke Ayling is ageing, whilst Firpo has struggled to adapt to life in the Premier League.

Someone like Dest, who can operate on either side of defence, would be a superb addition at Elland Road if he’s made available by Barcelona.

Following Marsch’s appointment, you can easily point out that because Dest is American it’s an obvious target.

However, you can’t overlook that he’s a really good full-back, who has had a much bigger impact on Barcelona than someone like Firpo did.

He could be a really shrewd addition in a key area in Marsch’s narrow system.
