Australia and Peru lock horns for a place at the World Cup after both teams failing to secure automatic qualification in their respective continental competition.
The Socceroos have made it to last four consecutive World Cups, though they managed to make it out of the group stage only once.
The team currently coached by Graham Arnold had a cold qualifying campaign and finished third in the group.
Australia defeated UAE 2-1 in the Asian play-offs to secure ticket to the intercontinental final.
Peru on the other hand is aiming for consecutive World Cup appearances after ending their 36-year absence at the competition in the last edition at Russia.
The Blanquirroja finished 5th in the South American qualifiers. The highly competitive nature of the zone is explained by the eliminating of teams like Colombia and Chile.
Ricardo Gareca’s men qualified for the competition last time via intercontinental play-offs and their opponent on that occasion was New Zealand.
Australia vs Peru Head-to-head
The one and only official meeting between the teams happened in last edition of the World Cup at Russia and Peru bagged a convincing 2-0 win in that fixture.
Andre Carrillo who opened the scoring before Paolo Guerrero’s second will be eying for a place in the starting lineup at the Ahmad bin Ali Stadium on Monday.
Australia vs Peru Prediction
The Australians have tasted success at the intercontinental play-offs in the last two occasions and one of them came against Uruguay in 2005. However, these victories are down to their performance in home soil with the ties being double-headers.
The Socceroos have failed to stamp any authority in the matches played away from home and this continued to happen in the Asian leg of qualifiers against lowly ranked sides this term.
Peru’s success is also down to their home form. However, they are coming to this tie with an experienced side. At least 10 players in Ricardo Gareca’s squad have played 50+ international games.
We are tempted to go with Peru in this fixture for the above reason.
Since this is a single legged final, we are expecting the tie to be extremely tight and therefore we back goals at a premium.
